The laser pointer
The RTS673, RTS771, and RTS773 total stations use a red laser beam to measure and as a laser pointer. The RTS573 total station uses a red laser only as a laser pointer.
The laser pointer is coaxial with the line of sight of the telescope. If the instrument is well adjusted, the red laser pointer coincides with the line of sight. External influences such as shock or large temperature fluctuations can displace the red laser pointer relative to the line of sight.
In addition to the red laser pointer, the RTS873 total station is equipped with a focusable green laser pointer. You cannot align the green or the red laser pointer on the RTS873. Both laser pointers are software adjusted with collimation values from the field software.
