Using the Measure Lines & Area app

Measure Lines & Area is used in one of two modes to either measure an open polyline length, or closed surface area. A line measurement shows the length and total length; an area measurement also shows the surface area of the measured region. Measurements are saved in a .csv file.

You can measure areas using GNSS (), Real World ( / / ) or Model () based measurements.

To measure a line or area:

  1. Measure the first point.

When measuring points for a line or area, they are shown as a blue sphere.

  2. Measure the second point. The yellow line is shown between the two points.

The length between the points appears in a panel on the left of the screen, along with the current surface area defined by the measured points (0 m2 for a straight line).

  3. Continue to measure required points.

As you measure more points, the measurements shown on the left of the screen show the length between the last 2 points, and also the total length from the first measured point to the last point and the area defined by the measured points.

    • If required, you can delete any point by double-tapping it.

    • If you need to insert a point after any previously measured point, tap the previously measured point to 'activate' it, then measure your new point. The new point is inserted after the 'activated' point.

  4. Tap the Area checkbox in the panel on the left side of the screen to toggle between measuring an open polyline or a closed surface area. When measuring an area the surface is displayed in purple.

  5. When you have finished measuring a line or area, tap to complete the measurement.

To cancel the entire current line or area you are measuring, double-tap .

  6. Tap Sync to sync to Trimble Connect or the SV Measurements folder on your device (depending on how you loaded the model). See Syncing measurements for sharing in the office.
