Workflows for GIS professionals
SiteVision is a great tool for creating value from your investment in building a GIS database, allowing users to accurately visualize data from the GIS in the field.
SiteVision supports both Esri format Shapefile and File Geodatabase data uploaded to a Trimble Connect Maps workspace, or direct connection to a compatible OGC web feature service, or Esri feature service for streaming of online data.
Different GIS users configure and capture their GIS data in different database structures. If the data is complete, and structured in a suitable way, SiteVision can present the information as a fully modelled 3D representation of the GIS data. This is done using the SiteVision Manager that analyzes the attribute information such as pipe type, pipe depth, and pipe diameter, or tree type, height, and spread to create the model. Symbols for point features are customized by creating SketchUp models to represent the feature type and applying rules to scale the models.
Not all GIS systems have complete information or adequate data on height/depths. In these cases, SiteVision can either drape the 2D data on a supported surface model, or present the information as a 2D layer drawn approximately at ground level. This approach allows users to simply locate the assets with SiteVision, in a manner similar to having a locating crew paint the service locations on the road.
