Measuring a surface or a feature
Siteworks can measure points and lines and can create a real-time Digital Terrain Model (DTM) from the measured points or lines. Points can be toggled to be included in the DTM if the Point type is set to Surface. If a point does not need including in the DTM creation, then select Feature as the point type. Certain line types are included in the DTM creation as well. This is discussed below.
-
If the software is not in Measure mode, tap Home and then tap Measure.
-
To open the Measure Type settings screen, tap one of the icons
on the right side of the main panel to choose between point, line, surface, and non-surface feature to be measured. The icon displayed on the main panel changes depending on the type of measurement being performed. The Measure Type screen is also accessible via Menu / Measure / Measure Type.
Lines are measured by selecting one of the Line tabs for New Lines or Existing Lines. Selecting Existing Line enables the selection of an existing line from a table and the continuation of measuring that line from the last measured end point along it. Selecting New Line requires entering a Line Name and choosing what kind of line type it is. Line types that are included in the DTM surface measurement are Breaklines, Volume Boundaries, and Outer Boundaries. Line and Area are not included in the DTM surface measurement.
-
You can also enter a point name (will be automatically incremented) and optional point code. The Status bar icon changes depending on what kind of point or line you choose to measure:

Surface point
Elevation is used to create a terrain model.
Feature point
Elevation is not used to create a terrain model.
Feature line, area, or avoidance zone
Elevation is not used to create terrain model.
Breakline, volume doundary, or outer boundary
Elevation is used to create a terrain model.
To create an outer boundary, volume boundary, or surface points to add to an existing line, select the correct line type. Once a surface is measured, you can save the surface as a design and then perform a material thickness check. See Checking material thickness.
To change the default point input value from Point name to Point Code, go to Menu / Settings / Measure and select either the Point Name or Point Code for the Default point input field value.
To save the measured DTM surface as a design:
-
From the Home menu, tap Data Management.
-
Tap Surface as Design
and enter a design name.
-
Choose whether to include measured linework, design linework, or no linework.
-
Select if you wish to merge the measured surface with the currently selected design surface.
-
Tap ACCEPT to export the measured surface as a design.
