Workflow: Perform a Site Mass Haul
Perform a site mass haul analysis is to determine the most efficient distribution of in situ earthen material from cut zones to fill zones on a site. Mass haul analyses help you estimate the earthwork costs of transforming your existing surface into a design surface. Following are the basic steps for this workflow. For more detailed instructions, see Perform Site Mass Haul Calculations. |

Commands: |
|
1. |
If you want a more precise analysis using material properties (shrinkage, bulkage, and compaction factors), define earthen materials in the Material and Site Improvement Manager. |
Material and Site Improvement Manager or |
2. |
Create a cut/fill map that indicates areas on a surface to cut and fill (based on a specified tolerance) to achieve a design. |
|
3. |
Draw boundaries to encompass the cut and fill zones. |
|
4. |
Run an initial analysis to determine the most efficient way to redistribute earthen material from cut zones to fill zones on a construction site. |
|
5. |
Run a Site Mass Haul report to see a textual representation of the results of the mass haul analysis, including an image from the Plan View, and the volumes and costs separated by source zones, destination zones, and haul roads. |
|
6. |
Define the locations of borrow pits and waste sites within and around your job site. Use borrow pits to provide additional fill for a zone when there is a deficit in usable mass earthen material. Use waste sites to dispose of usable and unusable material from cut zones. |
|
7. |
Define a network of haul roads (routes for vehicles performing mass haul operations) by selecting existing lines and converting them to haul roads. |
|
8. |
Create additional haul roads as needed. |
|
9. |
Refresh the mass haul analysis to account for the changes you have made since running the analysis. |
|
10. |
Run the Site Mass Haul Report again to see the effect of your changes. |
|
11. |
If possible, modify the network of haul roads to better manage the flow of the cut and fill volumes. You can also edit its attributes in the Properties pane. |
Right-click a haul road and select Edit from the context menu. |
12. |
Refresh the analysis. |
|
13. |
View the balance properties between zones. Balance details include the volume of material moved and the cost to move the materials. |
In the Plan View, select a balance between two zones, and view the balance details on the balance page. |
14. |
If you have a bank excess or deficit of materials, analyze your site's earthworks to calculate how a cut/fill balance can be achieved, based either on a total elimination of, or restriction in, the allowable volume of borrow or waste. |
