Import Project Link Files (.vcl)
After native Trimble Business Center objects have been exported to project link files (.vcl), you can transfer data between projects by importing these exported files into your other project (.vce) files. Project link files contain most* of the data that regular .vce project files contain, but in a format that is suitable for transfer. Therefore, object dependencies are maintained, and intelligence is retained with no loss of (or change to) objects when you transfer data. Because the native objects (and relationships between them) are preserved when you exchange project link files, you gain the flexibility to create and share both all-inclusive projects and subsets of projects.
*Note: Project link files contain a user-selected subset of the original project file and the additional objects on which those are dependent, but they do not support most survey objects, such as GPS baselines, vectors, trajectories, and level data.
Note: When an object in a .vcl file is imported, if its layer or linestyle exists in the project, the object will be placed on the project's layer/use its linestyle.
Warning: There is no check for duplicate data when importing objects in a project link file. If, for example, the same surface exists in two .vcl files that are imported into the same project, the surface will be duplicated.
Note: Project Link files (.vcl) can be imported into the version in which they were created, as well as later/higher versions of the program, but not earlier/lower versions.
To import a project link file:
- Follow the instructions in Import Data. The .vcl files are listed in the Select Files area as Project Link files. After import, the file appears in the Project Explorer under the Imported Files folder. All imported data is placed on the layer it resided on when it was exported as a project link file.
