auto-advance mode
A mode that enables you to skip a box in a command. Click the icon to toggle the auto-advance mode on. When the icon looks like this
, the value you entered in the box will be held and the box will be skipped when you work through the command additional times. If you pick an object that includes an elevation, however, that elevation is used; the locked elevation is not used.
One exception to this behavior is for linestring elevations. When you specify a segment end point's elevation and then toggle the auto-advance mode on, subsequent segment end point elevations will be undefined (represented by '?') until you specify a new elevation. At that time, the undefined elevations will be interpolated using the two known elevations (assuming that the linestring's Extend vertical property is set to Yes).
When you are editing linestrings, you can pick segments and vertical points of intersection (VPIs) in either the Plan View or the 3D View. If you accidentally pick nearby, non-linestring geometry, the nearest linestring geometry is selected. In addition, you can select segments by clicking the Browse button and choosing them in the Browse Horizontal Segments list; on the Vertical tab, you can select VPIs by clicking the Browse button and choosing them in the Browse Vertical Information list.
When you are editing a linestring, the segment or VPI you are editing is highlighted in both graphic views and in the lists. If you make another command active (by stacking it on top of the Edit Linestring command), the linestring highlighting is not shown.
