Import Inframodel Files (.xml)

Import Inframodel files (.xml) to bring corridor and other alignment-based surfaces, as well as feature data, into your model. Inframodel is a subset of the LandXML file schema that was developed to promote model-based exchange of infrastructure data in Finland. Inframodel files can contain:

  • Surface data, including breaklines and points
  • Alignment and corridor data for roads, waterways, and railways, including cross-sections
  • Hydrologic data for sewage and water supply, including pipe networks
  • Feature data, e.g., for landscaping, signage, noise reduction, light poles, fences, guard rails, and footings.

On import, you can specify these settings:

  • Explode options - Surfaces that are imported in this format have only non-editable, internal data, so you are given these options for creating additional editable objects that approximate the surface:
    • Poly 3D - Select this to create 3D polylines that are coincident with the surface's triangle edges.
    • CAD points only - Select this to create CAD points at each of the surface's vertices. Using the Create Surface command, you can recreate the surfaces using these points.
    • CAD points and lines - Select this to create both CAD points and 3D lines connecting them.
  • Check for holes - Select No to disable the check for holes in the surface (this should only be done when you know that the surface does not contain holes). Selecting No makes importing faster. If the surface has holes, but no check is done, surface triangles are formed across the hole outside the surface edge breakline.
