Measure Points

Use the Measure Points command to obtain and, optionally, store the positional information (coordinates) and source (for example, a total station, point cloud region, or polyline) for a selected CAD, survey, or scan point.

Prerequisites:

  • CAD, survey, or scan points

To measure a point:

  1. Select Measure Point in Home > Data to display the Measure Point command pane.
  2. Click in the Point field. Then, in a graphic view, select the survey or scan point you want to measure.

Optionally, click the Show Snap Options icon located on the command pane toolbar to help make your selection.

The coordinates for the selected point are displayed in the graphic view and in the Result section of the command pane (along with the source for the point).

  3. To save (store in the project) the current measurement displayed in the Result section, do the following:
    1. Click the Save button.
    2. In the Save Point Measurement dialog, optionally rename the measurement and/or change other properties.
    3. Click the Save button in the Save Point Measurement dialog.

The stored measurement continues to display in the graphic view, even if you make additional measurements or close the Measure Point command pane altogether.

Note: To specify whether stored measurements are displayed and/or are selectable in graphic views, select View Filter Manager > Advanced View Filter Settings.

The stored measurement also displays in the History section of the command pane.

Note: You can clear the History section at any time by clicking the Clear History icon located in the command pane toolbar. This does not affect the stored measurements.

Each stored measurement is represented in the Project Explorer by a new Point node nested beneath the Store Measurements parent node. You can right-click any stored measurement node and select Properties to view it in the Properties pane, where you can change the name, layer, and/or color. In addition, you can select any stored measurement in the Plan View and move it to a new location. The measurement values are updated accordingly.

Note: To delete a stored measurement, right-click it in the Project Explorer and select Delete.

  4. When you are done, click Close in the Measure Point command pane.
