Export ADAC Files (.xml) with GIS Attributes
Use the ADAC Settings and Export commands to prepare and export data with GIS attributes as Asset Design and As Constructed (ADAC) files, the standard format adopted by the Australian government. For more information on ADAC and the formats GIS attributes, see Import ADAC Files.
Prerequisites:
- Model data to export.
To access the commands:
- Select ADAC Settings.
- Select Export in Home > Data Exchange.
Using ADAC Settings before Import and Export
Before you import/export an ADAC file, you need to specify feature attributes in the ADAC Settings dialog. Doing so adds global component information that is relevant to each ADAC feature when it is imported/exported; this data is written to all ADAC features. For example, an Object ID attribute is required for all ADAC features (a button in the ADAC Settings dialog enables you to manually scan and upgrade all objects in the .xml to include the ID for each (which also updates existing ADAC features that do not already have an Object ID, as well as ADAC features that have been added in a design surface in Trimble Business Center after the import of an ADAC .xml file). When features require alternate component information, an updater writes that data individually (feature by feature) as required. The ADAC Settings dialog enables you to add and edit features in an imported ADAC model and then upgrade the entire document to be consistent with ADAC schema when you export to ADAC.
To set ADAC feature attributes using ADAC Settings:
- Open a .vce file and download all attachments.
Note: The VCE file must have a special kind of FXL file with feature codes that are compatible with the Australian software dealer's file.
- Go to Project > Project Settings > Feature code processing.
- In the Feature definition file text box, specify the feature definition (.fxl) file that you want to process. You can also browse for the .fxl file using the Browse button.
- Click OK. The .fxl file appears in the Project Explorer under the Imported files folder.
- Perform the survey work and add features for the things that you surveyed. For instance, consider a Linestring.
- Create a Linestring in the Plan View.
- Select the Linestring, right click and go to Properties from the context menu.
The Properties dialog opens.
- From the Feature dropdown list, select a feature for the particular Linestring. In this instance, change feature to Pipe(non pressure).
The details for the Pipe appear in the Feature textbox.
- Open ADAC Settings.
- In the ADAC Settings dialog, add and edit the necessary attributes, and click OK. Now you are ready to export an ADAC file.
To export an ADAC file:
- In the Export pane, click the Construction tab.
- Select ADAC exporter in the File Format list.
- Enter the name for the exported .xml file in the File Name textbox.
- Enter the location where you want to save the exported .xml file.
- Click Export.
An .xml file with the specified name is exported to the specific location.
- Go to the saved location and open the exported XML file.
You can view the ADAC settings that were sent out to the XML file.
