A mode of operation in which a GNSS receiver computes position fixes in real time from satellite data alone, without reference to data supplied by a base station. Autonomous positioning is the least precise positioning procedure a GNSS receiver can perform, yielding position fixes that are precise to ±10 to 20 meters. Also known as absolute positioning and point positioning.
