Import CAD Files (.dxf/.dwg)

CAD .dwg and .dxf files are drawing files used in architecture, civil engineering, design, and mapping industries. At the bottom of the import pane, you can specify settings that affect how the data imports.

Note: When you import CAD files, the imported objects retain their native properties. Many of these properties, however, are unneeded in this software so they are not visible or editable. Only their most common properties appear in the Properties pane. Depending on the object, these properties may include:
- name
- line or text style
- line style scale or text size
- color
- layer
- elevation
If you edit any of the linear CAD objects, such as arcs, lines, polylines, they are converted into linestrings and lose all of their native properties (they are replaced by linestring properties). If you export unedited CAD objects to a CAD file format, their native properties exist in the exported objects.
