station
A measurement value indicating the length as measured along an alignment object's horizontal alignment, as measured from a real or theoretical stationing starting point (0+00.00). That starting point may or may not be located at the alignment's point of beginning (POB). Stations are generally placed continuously at regular intervals along an alignment. The distance between each station (usually 100 feet in the English system and 1 kilometer in the metric system) is called a "full station". A stake is normally set at each full station.
Within this program's Alignment Editor, an alignment's stationing must be established by designating the station value at its point of beginning (POB).
Stations at points between full stations indicate both their total distance from the above noted stationing starting point and their relative distance from the nearest preceding full station. For example, station 5 + 47.9 is a unique point 547.9 units from the 0+00.00 station point, and 47.9 units from the preceding full station.
