Specify an Object or Property in a List or by Picking in a View

These types of list controls each have two ways in which you can specify a value or object:

To specify a layer:

  • Select a layer in the Layer list, or select <<New Layer>> to create a new layer.
  • Pick an object (that resides on a layer) in a graphic view to use its layer.

To specify a color:

  • Select a color in the Color list, or select More colors to select another color or create a custom color.
  • Pick an object in a graphic view to use its color.

To specify a material texture:

  • Select a material in the Texture list, or select <<New Material>> to open the Material and Site Improvement Manager where you can create a new material texture.
  • Pick a surface in a graphic view to use its texture.

Note: If a surface does not have a material color representing a texture, the default surface color is used.

To specify a line style:

  • Select a line style in the Line style list, or select <<Import line styles>> to access additional line styles in an external file.
  • Pick a line in a graphic view to use its line style.

To specify a surface:

  • Select a surface in the Surface list, or select <New...> to create a new surface.
  • Pick a surface in a graphic view.

To specify an alignment:

  • Select an alignment in the Alignment list, or select <New...> to create an alignment.
  • Pick an alignment in a graphic view.

To specify an object's name:

  • Type the name in the Name or ID box.
  • Pick an object in a graphic view to use its name. If you pick a text object, the text is used for the name.

Note: You can extract names from most CAD objects, but not from blocks, boundaries, or points.
