Specify an Object or Property in a List or by Picking in a View
These types of list controls each have two ways in which you can specify a value or object:
- Layer
- Color
- Texture
- Line style
- Surface
- Alignment
- Name
To specify a layer:
- Select a layer in the Layer list, or select <<New Layer>> to create a new layer.
- Pick an object (that resides on a layer) in a graphic view to use its layer.
To specify a color:
- Select a color in the Color list, or select More colors to select another color or create a custom color.
- Pick an object in a graphic view to use its color.
To specify a material texture:
- Select a material in the Texture list, or select <<New Material>> to open the Material and Site Improvement Manager where you can create a new material texture.
- Pick a surface in a graphic view to use its texture.
Note: If a surface does not have a material color representing a texture, the default surface color is used.
To specify a line style:
- Select a line style in the Line style list, or select <<Import line styles>> to access additional line styles in an external file.
- Pick a line in a graphic view to use its line style.
To specify a surface:
- Select a surface in the Surface list, or select <New...> to create a new surface.
- Pick a surface in a graphic view.
To specify an alignment:
- Select an alignment in the Alignment list, or select <New...> to create an alignment.
- Pick an alignment in a graphic view.
To specify an object's name:
- Type the name in the Name or ID box.
- Pick an object in a graphic view to use its name. If you pick a text object, the text is used for the name.
Note: You can extract names from most CAD objects, but not from blocks, boundaries, or points.
