Each image below represents a step in the development of a hypothetical job site. The upper half of each picture shows the site from above (as in the Plan View). Starting in the third image, the lower half of the image shows a cross-section (as in the Surface Slicer View) of the site that correlates to the upper image, and shows a takeoff surface associated with the stage of development.
