Using the Android operating system

The TDC6 handheld is powered by the Android operating system. When you start the handheld, the Home screen appears. From here you can access all the features on the handheld.

Using the Home screen(s)

You can customize the app icons, widgets, shortcuts, and other features that appear on your Home screens for fast access to your most-used items.

  • To add an app icon or widget to a Home screen, navigate to it (for example, in the Apps screen) then tap-hold it, and drag it to the required Home screen.

  • To open any item on the Home screen, tap it.

  • To move between Home screens, swipe left or right. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows which Home screen you are on.

  • To open the Apps screen and view all your apps, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

  • To see notifications, swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger. See Managing notifications.

  • To open Quick Settings (frequently used settings), swipe down from the top of the screen twice with one finger or once with two fingers.

  • To quickly open all Settings, swipe down from the top of any screen then tap .

  • To return to the Home screen at any time, from within any app, tap .

  • You can set the screen timeout so that if you don’t use the handheld for a while, the screen automatically turns off to conserve battery power. Tap Settings, then tap Display / Screen timeout, then select the required timeout.

  • To wake up the handheld when the screen has turned off, press the Power button. If you have set security on the handheld, you will need to unlock it (see Locking the device).
