Managing data displayed in the map

Trimble Access provides various tools for controlling which data is displayed in the map so that you can focus on the data you are working on and more easily find and return to the features or areas you are most interested in.

Zooming to areas of interest

Creating an area of interest is useful when you have a large job site and you want to view only the part you are currently working in.

To create an area of interest, use the map pan and zoom tools so that the map shows only the part of the map you are interested in and then tap and hold Zoom extents in the Map toolbar and select Set area of interest.
To return to this view, tap and hold Zoom extents and select View area of interest.

Alternatively, you can configure the zoom extents so that part of the map is excluded. This is useful when, for example, you want to exclude a base station position that is several kilometers away.

To set the zoom extents, use the map pan and zoom tools so that the map shows only the part of the map you want included in the zoom extents and then tap and hold Zoom extents in the Map toolbar and select Set user zoom extent. This is now the map view shown when you tap Zoom extents.
To clear the custom view, tap and hold Zoom extents and select Clear user zoom extent.

Showing or hiding linked files or layers

You can reduce clutter in the map by choosing to show only some of the files linked to the job, or some of layers within those files. To change the files or layers within files that are visible, tap in the map toolbar to open the Layer manager, select the Map files tab and then tap the check mark next to the file or layer name. For more information, see Managing map file layers.

If the job contains scan point clouds (.rcwx files) or scan files (.tsf), use the Scans tab in the Layer manager to hide or display scan files in the map and in the Video screen. See Managing scan layers.

Improving data visibility in the map

To provide better contrast with features in the job or in other linked files, tap in the map toolbar and select Transparency, and then adjust the settings to increase the transparency of the map background or BIM model. See Map data transparency.

Isolating data of interest in the map

To isolate data you are most interested in:

If the job contains scan point clouds (.rcwx files) and you are interested in only some parts of the scan point clouds, use the Scans tab in the Layer manager to create a region. A region can include points from multiple .rcwx scans, as well as other regions. For more information, see Managing scan layers.
To see more clearly inside a BIM model or scan point cloud, use the Limit box to exclude parts of the BIM model such as floors or exterior walls, or to exclude parts of the point cloud. See Limit box.
To easily show only some items in a BIM model regardless of the BIM file or layer they are in, use the BIM toolbar. See Showing only some items in a BIM model.

If you are viewing a BIM model, you can use the Limit box and the tools on the BIM toolbar together to isolate the particular part of the model you want to view.

Filtering job data shown in the map

The Layer manager provides two tabs for filtering the points, lines, arcs, and polylines in the job that are shown on the map:

Use the Filter tab to filter job data by measurement type, for example by topo points, observed control points, keyed in points, computed cogo points, and so on. See Filtering data by measurement type.
Use the Features tab to filter job data by the feature codes defined by the Feature Library FXL file linked to the job. See Filtering data by feature layer.
