To add or edit a feature library in Trimble Access
Feature codes created using Trimble Access are used only to draw feature geometry. To create a feature library that contains attribute definitions you must use the Feature Definition Manager provided with Trimble Business Center.

- Tap
and select Settings / Feature Libraries.
- Tap Browse.
- Navigate to the location of the feature library file.
-
Tap the file to select it and tap Accept.
The file is copied to the System Files folder in the Trimble Data folder and appears in the Select feature library list.

- Tap
and select Settings / Feature Libraries.
- Tap New.
- Enter the name.
-
From the Lines and codes field, select the method for creating lines with codes. Select from:
-
Create feature coded linework with codes on points creates rich point symbols and linework defined in the FXL based on the code that is stored with the point. No linework is stored in the job. DXF files can be exported from Trimble Access with symbols and linework. In Trimble Business Center you can process feature codes to recreate the same linework in the office.
-
Store polylines with codes on lines creates rich linework defined in the FXL for polylines and polygons stored in the current job with the code stored with the line or polygon. Polylines and polygons can be easily created using both existing points and newly measured points. Points can be easily inserted or removed from polylines and polygons. DXF files can be exported from Trimble Access with symbols and linework. Polylines and polygons will import into Trimble Business Center.
For more information, see Measuring with feature codes.

Tap Accept.

While you can edit features codes in an existing feature library in Trimble Access, Trimble recommends editing feature codes using the Feature Definition Manager provided with Trimble Business Center. This will help to ensure field crews are using the same feature library.
- Tap
and select Settings / Feature Libraries.
- Select the feature library in the list. Tap Edit.
- To add a new feature code:
- Tap Add.
Enter the Feature code.
The maximum length of this field is 20 characters. Trimble recommends keeping code names short and meaningful to allow multiple codes to be selected for a point. When selecting codes for a point, the maximum length of the Code field is 60 characters.
Feature code names that contain spaces are shown in Trimble Access with a small dot between the words, for example, Fire·Hydrant. These dots do not appear in the office software.
If required, enter a Description for the code.
By default, if the code is a control code the value of the Control code action field appears in the Description field when viewing the Code list.
- Select the Feature type.
Select the Layer.
If there were no layers defined when the Feature Library FXL file was created using the Feature Definition Manager in Trimble Business Center, then the 0 layer is selected.
- If the Feature type is a:
- Point, select the symbol used for the point.
- Line, select the Line style, Field line style, and Line color.
- Polygon, select the Line style, Field line style, and Border color.
- Control code, select the control code action.
Lines and polygons are shown in the map using the simple solid or dashed Field line style unless you choose to display feature symbols in the map. To do this, tap
in the map toolbar and select Settings, and then in the Display options group box, select Feature library symbols in the Symbols field. For more information, see Map settings.
- Tap Accept.
- Tap Store.
