To measure a topo point

To configure settings for points measured in a conventional survey, tap Options in the Measure topo form. (In portrait mode, swipe right to left along the row of softkeys to view the Options softkey.)

  1. Tap and select Measure / Measure topo.
  2. Enter the Point name and Code. See Selecting feature codes in Measure points or Measure topo.

If the selected code has attributes, the Attrib softkey appears. Tap Attrib and fill out the attribute fields. See Entering attribute values when measuring a point. Tap Store.

  3. In the Method field, select a measurement method.
  4. Enter a value in the Target height field. See Target height.

  5. Aim the instrument at the target, prism or, if using DR mode, at the object to be measured.

To turn the instrument to the angle indicated on the screen, tap Turn.

  6. Tap Measure.

If you did not select the View before storage check box, the point is stored automatically and the point name increments (based on the Auto point step size setting). The software stores the raw observations (HA, VA, and SD).

If you selected the View before storage check box in the survey style, information about the measurement appears on the screen. To view the available information, tap the arrow to the left.

  7. Tap Store.

If you selected the Auto average option in the survey style, and you are measuring an observation to a duplicate point that is within the specified duplicate point tolerances, the observation and the computed average position (using all the available point positions), are automatically stored.

  • To search for the next available point name, tap Find. Enter the point name you want to start searching from (for example, 2000) and tap Enter. The software searches for the next available point name after 2000 and inserts it in the Point name field.

  • When the instrument EDM is in tracking mode, you can turn the instrument to the next point and then tap Read. The last point is stored and a measurement is made to the next point.
  • To add topo points to a CSV file, for example to create a list of control points, enable the Add to CSV file option in the job. See Additional settings.
  • When measuring a point in DR mode with a defined standard deviation, to accept the measurement before the standard deviation has been satisfied, tap Enter.
