Supported project data file types

The types of files you can add to the project include:

  • BIM models:

    BIM models that can be copied to any controller except the TCU5 controller and the TDC600 model 1 handheld:

    • IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) files (.ifc, .ifczip)

    • TrimBIM (Trimble BIM) files (.trb)

    BIM models that you can upload to the project in Trimble Connect and then download to the controller as TrimBIM files:

    • Design (.dgn) files created using Bentley software.

    • Drawing (.dwg) files created using Autodesk AutoCAD software.

    • IFC (Industry Foundation Class files) in the .ifc or .ifczip file format.

    • Navisworks (.nwd) files created using Navisworks software.

    • Trimble SketchUp (.skp) files

    • Trimble Virtual Construction Link (.vcl) Office to Field files created using Trimble WorksManager or Trimble Business Center software.
  • Point and line files:

    • CSV and TXT files

    • AutoCAD Drawing Exchange Format (DXF) files (.dxf)

    • ESRI Shapefiles (.shp)

    • RXL files (.rxl)

    • LandXML files (.xml)

    • 12d Model files (.12da)

    • Google Earth KML or KMZ files (.kml, .kmz)
  • Surfaces:

    • Digital terrain models (.dtm .ttm .xml, .dxf, .12da)

    • Surfaces in BIM models

  • Scan points and point clouds (.tsf and .rwcx)

  • Road files:

    • RXL files (.rxl)

    • LandXML files (.xml)

    • 12d Model files (.12da) – typically used in Roads

    • GENIO roads (.inp, .crd, .mos)

  • TXL tunnels (.txl)

  • Surpac files (.str) – typically used in Mines
