SX10/SX12 instrument errors

If an instrument error appears, Trimble recommends downloading the error log from the connected Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station and sending the error log to your Trimble distributor for analysis.

To resolve the error:

1. Power off the instrument completely.
2. Restart the Trimble Access software.
3. Power on the instrument. If the instrument error does not return, you may safely continue using the instrument.
4. If the instrument error reappears, make sure that:

   • The Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station has the latest firmware version installed.

     To view the installed firmware version, tap and select Instrument / Instrument settings.

   • The controller is running the latest version of the Trimble Access software.

     To view the version number of the software installed on the controller, tap and select About.

   To check for later versions of instrument firmware or Trimble Access software, refer to the Trimble Geospatial Software and Firmware Latest Releases PDF.

5. If required, update the firmware and software to the latest version using Trimble Installation Manager for Windows. For more information, refer to the Trimble Installation Manager for Windows Help.

   If the instrument error does not return, you may safely continue using the instrument.

6. If you are running the latest firmware and software and you still see the error, you may need to send the instrument to a certified service center for assessment. Contact your Trimble distributor to discuss how to do this.

1. Connect the instrument to the controller using the USB cable.

   You could connect using a Wi‑Fi connection, but the cable connection will be faster.

2. In Trimble Access, tap and select About. Tap the Support softkey and then select SX10/SX12 log collector. The SX10/SX12 Log utility appears.
3. To connect the utility to the instrument:
   1. Tap Scan to scan for the connected instrument.
   2. If the connected instrument is not automatically selected in the Instrument field, select it from the list.
   3. Tap Connect to connect to the instrument.

4. Tap Download log files.

   You are prompted to select the folder where the downloaded zip file will be saved. The default location is C:\ProgramData\Trimble\Trimble Data\System Files.

5. When the download is complete, tap Open log folder.

6. Create a new zip file containing the zip file you just downloaded, as well as the SC.log file in the C:\ProgramData\Trimble\Trimble Data\System Files folder.
7. Send the zip file you created to your Trimble distributor for analysis, along with a detailed description of the steps that occurred before the instrument error appeared.
8. To clear the contents of the log file, tap Clear logs and then tap OK to confirm.
