Instrument password
If the connected instrument is a Trimble SX12 scanning total station with firmware S2.8.x or later installed, and Trimble Access is connecting to the instrument using Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi HaLow, you may be prompted to enter the instrument password.
Once you have entered the password for an instrument, the Trimble Access software saves and remembers the password for each instrument you connect to.
Instrument password functionality is not available when using the TDC600 model 2 handheld
For steps on connecting to the instrument using Wi-Fi, see Instrument Wi-Fi connections.
Instruments that have firmware S2.8.x installed are configured with a factory default password.
The first time you connect to a new instrument or to an instrument that has been upgraded to firmware S2.8.x, the Trimble Access software prompts you to change the password from the factory default password to a password of your choice.
-
The password must have at least 8 characters, with a minimum of one numeric character and one symbol.
-
The password you enter is stored in the instrument and in the Trimble Access software on the controller.
As long as the password stored in the instrument matches the password for that instrument stored on the controller, you can reconnect to the instrument without having to re-enter the password.
The Trimble Access software prompts you to enter the instrument password when you connect the controller to an instrument for which you have not yet stored the password for that instrument.
-
When prompted, enter the instrument password and then tap Accept.
-
Wait for around 30 seconds while the password is stored.
-
When the software confirms the password has been stored, tap OK.
Wait for the controller to connect to the instrument using Wi-Fi.
If you attempt to connect the controller to an instrument and the saved password on the controller does not match the password saved in the instrument, then the software cannot connect. This may mean that someone has changed the password on that instrument using a different controller. See To update an instrument password in Trimble Access and If you do not know the instrument password below.
When the saved instrument password in Trimble Access does not match the instrument password stored in the instrument firmware, and you know the new password that is stored in the instrument:
-
Tap and select Settings / Connections.
-
Select the Wi-Fi tab.
-
Select the instrument that you are attempting to connect to.
-
Tap Forget password. Trimble Access deletes the stored instrument password.
-
Wait for the controller to connect to the instrument using Wi-Fi.
-
When prompted, enter the instrument password.
If you do not know the current password for an instrument you are attempting to connect to, you will need to change it.
If you are using a Windows controller, you can reset the password to the factory default password using the Power button on the instrument, or you can change the password by connecting to the instrument using the USB cable .
USB connections to an SX12 are not supported on Android devices except the TSC5. If you are using a controller running Android that is not a TSC5 you can change the password only by using the Power button on the instrument to reset the password to the factory default password and then entering a new password when prompted when you connect to the instrument.
To reset the password using the instrument Power button
-
If an instrument password has previously been stored on the controller, go to the Wi‑Fi settings tab and tap Forget password.
-
Press the Power button rapidly on the instrument 5 times to reset the password stored in the instrument firmware to the factory default password. The instrument shuts down.
-
Press the Power button once on the instrument to start up the instrument.
-
When you attempt to connect to the instrument using Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi HaLow, the Trimble Access software prompts you to change the password from the factory default password to a password of your choice.
To change the password using the USB cable
-
Connect to the instrument using the USB cable.
