To set up and connect the instrument

1. Set up the instrument, usually over a known point. Alternatively, position it so that you can perform a different type of station setup using other known points or lines.

2. Use the tripod legs and the tribrach bubble to level the instrument.

   You can refine the instrument level using the Electronic level screen when you start the survey in the Trimble Access software.

3. Power on the instrument.

4. Connect the controller to the instrument. Connection options depend on the instrument you are using.

   A cable connection requires no configuration. For other connection types, refer to the appropriate topic:

   • Radio connections
   • Bluetooth connections
   • Instrument Wi-Fi connections

5. On the controller, start Trimble Access.

   If the Trimble Access software does not automatically connect to the instrument, see Auto‑connect settings.

   Use the status bar to confirm the software is connected to the instrument.
