Stakeout navigation
When navigating to a point during stakeout, the information shown depends on whether you are performing a Conventional or GNSS survey, and the options you have configured in the Stakeout options screen. To configure these options, see Stakeout navigation display.
Conventional survey
Use the Graphics mode setting in Options to choose what is displayed during stakeout. The Graphics mode options are:
-
Direction then grid
The display shows a large heading arrow which switches to a grid view once you are within 3 meters (10 feet) of the point. The arrow points in the direction of the point that you intend to measure (the "target"). The distance to go is displayed below the direction arrow. The deltas displayed below the direction arrow can be configured from Options. You can also change the deltas by tapping and holding on the screen where the deltas are displayed.
-
Direction then in/out/left/right
The display shows a large heading arrow which switches to in/out/left/right directions relative to the instrument once you are within 3 meters of the point. The arrow points in the direction of the point that you intend to measure. The distance to go is displayed below the direction arrow. The deltas displayed below the direction arrow can be configured from Options. You can also change the deltas by tapping and holding on the screen where the deltas are displayed.
-
In/out/left/right
The display shows in/out/left/right directions relative to the instrument.
Using a robotic instrument
If you are operating a robotic instrument remotely from the target using Autolock or GeoLock:
- the instrument automatically tracks the prism as it moves.
- the instrument continuously updates the graphical display if TRK mode is enabled.
- the graphical display is reversed and the arrows are shown from the target (prism) to the instrument.
NOTE –If you are using a servo instrument, and the Servo auto turn field in the survey style is set to HA & VA, or HA only the instrument automatically turns to the point. If you are working robotically, or when the Servo auto turn field in the survey style is set to Off, the instrument does not turn automatically.
GNSS survey
In a GNSS survey, the display shows the large heading arrow which switches to a grid view once you are within 3 meters (10 feet) of the point (the "target").
Hold the display screen in front of you as you walk toward the point that you intend to stake (the "target"). The distance to go is displayed below the direction arrow. The deltas displayed below the direction arrow can be configured from Options. You can also change the deltas by tapping and holding on the screen where the deltas are displayed.
Using GNSS with IMU tilt compensation
If you are using GNSS with IMU tilt compensation, the heading from the IMU is used to orient the large stakeout navigation arrow, even when you are stationary. The LED panel of the receiver must be facing you for these to be orientated correctly. Continue moving forwards until the cross, representing your current position, covers the bull's‑eye target, representing the point.
If you are not using a GNSS with IMU tilt compensation for heading, it is important to keep facing in the same direction and only move forwards, backwards, left or right. Do not change your orientation.
TIP – If you are using GNSS IMU tilt compensation, when you get to within 0.3 meters (1 feet) you can stop moving yourself and simply move the pole tip to the target position, using the stakeout screen for guidance.
Using GNSS without IMU tilt compensation
If you are using GNSS without IMU tilt compensation, the direction heading is provided by:
-
the compass in your controller (if it has one), when you are stationary.
-
the GNSS receiver positions, when you are moving.
The heading information is most accurate while you're moving as the controller's compass can be inaccurate especially when near large metallic objects.
TIP – To change the reference point used by the small orientation arrow, tap the North/Sun softkey. (In portrait mode, swipe right to left along the row of softkeys to view more softkeys.)
