To measure by angles only or angles and distance

In a conventional survey, you can measure a point using a horizontal and a vertical angle or by a horizontal angle only. Alternatively, measure a point by angles and a distance.

  1. Tap and select Measure / Measure topo.
  2. Enter the Point name and, if required, the Code.
  3. In the Method field, select Angles only, H. Angle only or Angles and distance.
  4. In the Target height field, enter the height of the target.
  5. To set the perspective from which objects are offset, tap Options and change the settings in the Servo/Robotic group box. For more information, see Servo/Robotic.

  6. When using the Angles and distance measurement method, tap Dist to measure and fix the horizontal distance, then turn the instrument. The horizontal distance will remain fixed but the horizontal and vertical angles will change.

The distance reverts to ? if the Target test setting is enabled in the Instrument settings screen and the instrument is turned more than 30 cm from the target. See Target test.

  7. Tap Measure.

  8. If you selected the View before storage check box in the survey style, the observation adjusted for the offset distance appears. Tap Store.

Two angles only observations from two different known points can be 'averaged' to compute the coordinates of the intersection point. To average the observations, they must be stored with the same point name. When the Duplicate point: Out of tolerance message appears, select Average. Alternatively, average the observations using Compute average. Select the averaging method in the Cogo settings screen..
