Linking project files for download to the controller

For any project, you can select files in the Reference tab in the Project properties screen to add a link attribute to the file, indicated by an orange link icon . The file is automatically selected for download in the Download screen in Trimble Access. The Trimble Access user can choose not to download the file at that time, if required.

Trimble recommends selecting files for download to make sure required files are downloaded to the controller, regardless of the version of Trimble Access being used.

Trimble recommends selecting files for download in the following cases:

  • If team members are using Trimble Access version 2021.11 and earlier you must select every file required for download because unlinked files are not shown in Trimble Access and cannot be selected for download to the controller.

  • For team members using Trimble Access version 2021.20 and later, select important files for download. This ensures important files are not missed and streamlines the download process in the field. Users can view and select other files in the project to download to the controller if they choose.

  • If team members are using Trimble Access version 2021.20 and the project contains reference files uploaded to the Trimble Connect cloud project using Trimble Sync Manager version 1.4.63 and earlier, you must select the files for download. If you do not add a link attribute to these files in Trimble Sync Manager version 1.4.64 they are not linked. They will not be shown in any version of Trimble Access and cannot be selected to download to the controller.

Selecting files for download applies to all new jobs subsequently created for the project, but does not affect jobs already downloaded to the controller.

To link files for download to the controller

  1. In the Project properties screen, select the Reference tab. The tab shows the files in the Trimble Connect project.

  2. To ensure files are automatically selected for download in Trimble Access with the project, click the gray link next to the file name to change the link color to orange .

You can select up to 84 project and system files.

Project files are available to all jobs in the project and are typically map files or reference information such as PDF files. System files are files that are automatically downloaded to the Trimble Access System files folder on the controller and include files such as feature library, survey style, and coordinate system file. For more information on the files shown, see Supported files and Using an existing Connect project.

    • Team members using Trimble Access version 2021.11 and earlier can only download files that have an orange link next to the file name.

    • Team members using Trimble Access version 2021.20 and later can select and download files that have gray links if they choose. However changing the link color of important files to orange in Trimble Sync Manager is useful to make sure required files are not missed and to streamline the download process in the field.

    • Project reference files uploaded to the Trimble Connect cloud project using Trimble Sync Manager version 1.4.63 and earlier that are not attributed do not show in Trimble Access version 2021.20 and cannot be downloaded.

If a file you have added to the project is incorrect or incomplete (for example, a list of points in a CSV file), or uploaded using a previous version of Trimble Sync Manager, you can delete the file from the Reference files tab of the Project properties screen and then add it back. As long as the file has the same file name as the file you deleted, the cloud icon on the controller will indicate there are changes to the job to be downloaded.
