Terra Office add-in for ArcMap

Delivered as an add-in to Esri ArcGIS Desktop, the Trimble Terra Office add-in for ArcMap provides a complete set of tools for setting up data collection projects using on-premise ArcGIS geodatabase infrastructure. From within the familiar ArcMap environment, desktop users can set up, manage, and deploy data collection projects. Collected data is then downloaded (or checked-in) and processed directly into the geodatabase.

For further information on core ArcGIS Desktop functionality, refer to the Esri documentation.

Getting started

To get started with the Terra Office add-in for ArcMap, see Getting started.

Creating and managing projects

In Terra Office, data collection activities are managed as projects. These projects define the schema and rules for data collection (including accuracy settings, project geodetics and GNSS metadata) and link back to the map layers used to create them. In general, all schema constraints and rules defined in the map layers are translated into the data collection project to ensure that collected data meets the required standards.

For more information, see Creating and managing projects.

Taking projects and data to the field

By default, Terra Office projects represent a schema for new data collection. In the TerraFlex workflow, it is also possible to select existing features from your GIS and take them to the field for attribute edits, geometry edits, or both.

To work with existing features in the field, the user must have a TerraFlex Standard or TerraFlex Premium license.

For more information, see Taking projects and data to the field.

Integrating collected data

After data has been collected in the field, it can be brought back into the GIS using the add-in. All data gets stored directly back into the geodatabase feature classes that were selected for data collection (as configured through the map layers) in the project.

For more information, see Integrating collected data.

Processing collected data

Different project types have different sources of accuracy available to them. For projects set to use only real-time corrections in the field or the new offline GNSS corrections available in TerraFlex, no additional data processing in the add-in is necessary. However, if manual (desktop) post-processing has been configured as a source of accuracy for the project, then it can be done after the feature and GNSS measurement data has been downloaded or checked-in.

For more information, see Processing collected data.

Managing and understanding settings

Trimble Terra Office maintains some settings that apply across different project types—field device naming, post-processing profiles, base stations for post-processing, etc.

For more information, see Managing and understanding settings.
