Linking an existing layer
You can use an existing layer in more than one map workspace, as long as the map workspaces all use the same datum.
You can edit the form template or symbology for the linked layer from any map workspace that the layer is linked to. Edits to the form template or symbology are applied to all of the map workspaces where the layer is used.
To link to a layer in another workspace
- In the map workspace, click the
button below the Data list and select Link to existing layer. The Layer Library pop-up appears, showing layers in other map workspaces that are in the same datum as the current map workspace.
- If you cannot find the layer you want to select, enter part of the layer name in the Search layers field at the top of the Layer Library pop-up.
-
To use one of the listed layers, click the layer name and then click Use.
The layer name is added to the Data list. The link icon indicates it is a linked layer.
To unlink a layer from the workspace
If you decide you no longer want to use the layer in one of the map workspaces to which it is linked, right-click the layer in the Data list and then select Remove layer.
You cannot remove a linked layer if there are any active data maintenance tasks (ToDos) that include features in that layer. To change the status of active ToDos, see To change the status of a ToDo in the office. Return to the map workspace and then remove the linked layer (you may need to press Ctrl + F5 to force the map to refresh before you can remove the linked layer).
