Release Notes - August 2024

New features and improvements

This WorksOS release includes these new features and enhancements:

Contours

Customer Value: This feature enhances project planning and monitoring by providing clear, visual representation of ground elevations, enabling more accurate assessments and decision-making.

The "Contour Display" feature in Trimble WorksOS provides you with the ability to visualize ground elevation and its shape directly on the map.

By enabling contour lines in the map settings, you can see detailed elevation contours and labels, which are dynamically updated based on your preferences.

Unlike traditional cut/fill maps that require you to set color schemes based on project settings or elevations, the Contour Display feature automatically draws contour lines at 1-foot or 1-meter intervals, depending on your settings.

This industry-standard mapping functionality enhances the ability to differentiate the magnitude of cuts and fills, making it easier to assess terrain and work progress.

Landfill Activity (Density Calculation)

Customer Value: This feature enhances landfill management by providing accurate daily operations, improving efficiency, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and tracking landfill life expectancy.

The "Landfill Activity" feature in Trimble WorksOS enables you to manage landfill operations with precision.

This feature allows you to create landfill activities by selecting surveyed surfaces and designs, and calculate estimated airspace. You can import weight information to calculate daily densities based on existing volume data.

The activity dashboard provides comprehensive metrics, including percent complete, remaining airspace, and density overviews, allowing for detailed monitoring and management of landfill activities.

Productivity: (previously called “Composite graph”)

Customer Value: This feature enhances data visualization and decision-making by providing a comprehensive relationship between production, progress, and productivity metrics. The Productivity tab lets you visualize all three of these metrics in one interactive graphic, enabling more effective project management.

The "Productivity" tab in Trimble WorksOS integrates three crucial metrics:

  • Work Completed,

  • Work Remaining,

  • Production

into a single, comprehensive graphic. This feature allows you to define starting and ending points for activities, enabling daily calculations and trend analysis of material movement.

By consolidating these metrics, the Productivity tab provides a clear visualization of:

  • Progress: Where in the process are we relative to the end?

  • Production: How much did we move today?

  • Productivity: How much did we progress and how much did we move to get there? (an overall combination of progress and production)

This integration simplifies your user experience by reducing the need to switch between separate views, thereby enhancing clarity and efficiency.

Custom area import

Customer Value: This feature enables more precise data analysis and project tracking by allowing you to import custom areas. The ability to import custom area from DXF files means that CAD measurements can be imported into WOS and used as measurement boundaries

The "Custom Area Import" feature in Trimble WorksOS allows you to import DXF files and select closed polygon shapes to be designated as custom areas within a project.

This feature is accessed through the regular import UI and supports the selection of multiple areas for import. Once imported, these custom areas can be used to filter and analyze machine data specific to those regions, enhancing the granularity and precision of project management.

Surface Reference

Customer Value: This feature enhances project flexibility and precision by enabling you to create and manage reference surfaces with specific elevation offsets, aiding in accurate project planning and execution.

The "Surface Reference" feature in Trimble WorksOS allows you to create a new reference surface from an existing design or surveyed surface with a specified elevation offset. This feature is accessible through the Import screen and enables you to use the reference surface in various project activities. Once created, a reference surface cannot be disabled and can only be deleted if it is not being used in any activity.

Drag and Drop Imported Files

Customer Value: Users can now drag and drop compatible file formats directly onto the Map screen, making the import process more intuitive and efficient.

Users to import files directly by dragging and dropping them onto the Map screen. This improvement streamlines the import process, eliminating the need to go through the Manage Imports workflow.

Compaction Activities and Dashboard

Customer Value: This feature enhances project efficiency by providing real-time, actionable data on compaction quality, enabling better decision-making and ensuring project specifications are met.

The "Compaction Activities and Dashboard" feature in Trimble WorksOS allows users to effectively monitor and manage compaction activities on their job sites. Users can create detailed compaction activities by specifying parameters such as activity type, material, and pass count. The dashboard provides a comprehensive view with three key widgets: percentage complete, compaction map, and pass count distribution. These widgets offer visual and graphical insights into the compaction progress, helping users identify areas that are over-compacted, under-compacted, or compacted to the target.

Fixed

  • Map not loading: We have fixed an issue where the screen goes grey when loading the map.

  • Machine icon disappearing: We have fixed an issue where some attributes would cause the machine icons to not be displayed on the map.

  • Crash when converting 2D to 3D project: We have fixed an issue where navigating to the "Edit Project" page would cause the browser tab to lock up and crash. The crash occurred due to the excessive number of vertices in the project boundary.

  • Overlapping boundary: We have fixed an issue where the wizard incorrectly reported overlapping boundaries when attempting to convert a 2D project to a 3D project, even after adjusting the border.

  • Profile view resizing issue: We have fixed an issue where the profile view appeared squashed and could not be resized using the drag bar. The root cause was due to a small browser size. The issue has now been resolved, and the profile view should resize correctly.

  • Disappears lineworks at certain zoom level: We have fixed an issue where lineworks would disappear at certain zoom levels and reappear at the next level. The problem was traced to multiple PNG files (map tiles) generated where the backend tile service was incorrectly picking the first PNG file.
