Conditioning the battery
CAUTION – The bottom of the charger is hot when in use. Do not touch the bottom plate. Ensure that nothing blocks the vent holes in the back of the charger. The charger should be placed on a fire-retardant surface and ensure there is a clear area at least 50 cm around the charger during use.
After a number of incomplete charge/discharge cycles, the power gauge in the smart battery becomes inaccurate. The battery is still safe to use, but the power gauge may no longer be accurate which may decrease the battery run time in the field. Then a conditioning is required. This is a cycle of:
-
Charge battery completely.
-
Discharge the battery until the voltage is below the low-end conditioning threshold. Charge battery again.
The need for conditioning is read out from the battery by the charger and indicated by a flashing red LED. Press the conditioning button to start conditioning the battery. There is one button for each slot. Only batteries that require a conditioning can be conditioned.
To condition the battery:
-
Press the conditioning button under the battery. The red LED becomes solid and then green LED starts to flash. Release the conditioning button.
-
If you remove the battery while conditioning is in progress, conditioning stops. To succeed, a conditioning cycle must be uninterrupted.
Conditioning a single battery can take up to 24 hours. Trimble recommends that you condition the batteries over a weekend.
