GSM/GPRS Modem – Configuration

Use this page to configure the GSM/GPRS modem for your cellular provider.

PPP – Current state of the GSM/GPRS modem. See PPP in GSM/GPRS Modem – Summary.

Change GPRS Service – Select the check box to configure your GSM/GPRS modem based on your current country and provider. After selecting the check box, the following fields are available:

  • Country – A list of countries around the world that currently have GSM/GPRS services. This list is actively updated with every release of receiver firmware. Use this field to select the country of your provider.
  • Provider – After the country is selected, the Provider field is updated with a list of GSM/GPRS services providers in the selected country.
  • Plan – The Plan field is updated after a provider is selected. There may be only one plan to select from, but in cases where more than one is available your provider can provide the correct setting.

After the Country, Provider and Plan are selected, the following fields are automatically filled-in:

  • Access Point Name – Specific to the provider and plan.
  • CID – Cell ID, the unique number used to identify each Base transceiver station (BTS).
  • GPRS Username – Specific to the provider and plan. In some cases, this is not required.
  • GPRS Password – Specific to the provider and plan. In some cases, this is not required.
  • Verify GPRS Password – Specific to the provider and plan. In some cases, this is not required.

If the Country, Provider or Plan is not provided in the Trimble APN database, you can manually enter data into all fields shown above. If required, contact your cellular provider for the required parameters.

Auto Restart – Selecting this check box sets up the modem to automatically restart using the parameters set each time the GNSS receiver is powered on.

Use as default route – By default, this is selected. When selected, the receiver accesses the Internet via the GSM/GPRS modem.

Connect – After the GSM/GPRS modem parameters are set, click the Connect button to connect the system to your provider. The Connect button also saves the parameters set for the GSM/GPRS modem.

Disconnect – Disconnects the system from the provider.

Save – Saves the GSM/GPRS parameters set for the provider without connecting to the service.

Cancel – Cancels the current changes on this page.

Reset Modem – Click this button to reset the GPRS modem. It can be useful when the GPRS modem appears stuck for some reason and you do not want to power off the receiver. When you click this button, a message warns that the modem will be reset. Click OK to confirm. The PPP is then disconnected and the GPRS modem is restarted. The reset procedure may take several minutes to complete.

After the modem is reset, you may need to set the CPIN again, and then restart the PPP.

If a CPIN has been set up on the SIM card, the web page shows the following additional items:

CPIN – The CPIN set up for the SIM card.

Verify CPIN – Re-enter the CPIN to verify.

Set CPIN – Click this button to set the CPIN for the system.

Use these fields to enter the CPIN set for the SIM Card used in the GNSS receiver.

CAUTION – The SIM will become locked if the incorrect CPIN is attempted three times. In this case, the SIM will need to be returned to the provider to unlock it.
