GSM/GPRS – Summary

This page provides a summary of the GSM/GPRS information.

Update Button – Click the Update button to update the summary screen for the GSM/GPRS modem.

This button is available only when the receiver is not accessing the modem, otherwise this button is disabled. “Accessing the modem” includes:

  • Configuring modem’s baud rate, flow control, parity check
  • Retrieving/Setting GSM Radio Band
  • Retrieving Modem IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity)
  • Retrieving/Setting SIM card
  • Checking/Setting SIM CPIN (PIN Authentication)
  • PPP Activation on the Modem (including PPP in-progress and PPP established)

Modem Power State – Shows the power state of the internal GSM/GPRS cellular modem.

  • “ON” when power is supplied to the GSM/GPRS modem
  • “OFF” no power is being supplied to the GSM/GPRS modem. When the power is off, the summary items below are not shown.

Modem IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) – The modem identity string is retrieved from the GSM/GPRS modem. It is used for reference and troubleshooting.

GSM Radio Band – Typically, the radio band is automatically configured based on your provider, shown in MHz.

Connection Type – The connection type of the received signal from your provider. Examples are EDGE, 3G, and 4G.

Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) – Shows the received signal strength of the GSM/GPRS signal in dBm. Also displays the standard cell phone signal strength bars.

Operation Mode – Current operation mode of the GNSS receiver.

  • Base
  • Rover

SIM Status – The SIM info is available only when a valid SIM card is present in the SIM slot.

  • If the SIM card is not present or SIM has error, the SIM Status is SIM card not detected.
  • If SIM card is present, but the SIM card requires a CPIN, the SIM Status is CPIN required but not set yet.
  • If the SIM card is present and CPIN is not required, or required CPIN has been correctly set, the SIM status is OK (PIN verified or not required).

To set the SIM CPIN, see GSM/GPRS Modem – Configuration.

SIM ID – The SIM ID contains a string of numbers which should match the numbers printed on the SIM card. The SIM ID can be used for reference or troubleshooting.

Phone – Telephone number of the SIM card.

Service Operator – The service provider who provides the wireless connection for the SIM card.

PPP – When the modem is used for data connection, the connection is established via PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol). Following are the possible PPP states. The state will be the same as the PPP state on the I/O Configuration screen.

  • Disconnected – no PPP has been in-progress or established;
  • Disconnected, will retry in 30 sec – when PPP auto-restart is configured and the system is waiting for reconnect;
  • Wait for GSM/GPRS Modem – when the modem is not ready yet
  • Connecting – when PPP is connecting to the ISP, but not fully established yet.
  • Disconnecting – when PPP is disconnecting, but not fully disconnecting yet
  • Searching Network Operator – when PPP is in progress of searching operator
  • Check CPIN – when PPP checks whether the SIM card needs CPIN or not.
  • Set CPIN – when PPP found the CPIN was required, it is setting CPIN from receiver’s configuration file to the SIM. If the required CPIN and user-provided CPIN does not match, the status SIM CPIN mismatched is shown.
  • Up and connected – when PPP has been successfully established.

Temperature – Current temperature of the GSM/GPRS modem in Celsius.

Network Registration – This is to indicate whether the modem has been registered or not. The status can be:

  • Not registered
  • Registered (Home Network)
  • Registered (roaming)
  • Searching for operator
  • Registration denied
