Run an Area/Length/Count Report
Run an Area/Length/Count Report to calculate:
- The total number of discrete objects (such as points and blocks) in a selection
- The individual planimetric length of each open line in the selection
- The individual planimetric perimeter length of each closed line in the selection, and the total of those perimeter lengths.
- The individual planimetric area of each closed polyline in the selection, and the total of those areas
The statistics are reported separately for each layer in the selection.
Note: Generating this report can be the first step in performing a simple site takeoff, but the report's calculations are not necessarily intended to be used for bidding on a construction job. For that purpose, a Takeoff Report should be run.
Note: Only objects with a Layer property are considered in the report.
Prerequisites:
- License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
To run an Area/Length/Count Report:
- Do one of the following:
- Select Area/Length/Count Report in GIS > Data or in Takeoff > Report,
The Area/Length/Count Report command pane displays.
- In a graphic view or the Project Explorer, pick the objects that you want to report on, or click Options and choose a selection method in the context menu
- Choose an option in the Data to include list:
- All categories - Select this to report on all of the data types you have selected. Then skip the next step.
- Only specified objects - Select this to enable the check boxes for various data types.
- Uncheck boxes for the types of data that you do not want to include in the report.
- Areas - Report on the area encompassed by (and the perimeter of) each selected closed line, and the total of those areas.
- Lengths - Report on the individual length of each selected non-closed lines, and the total of those lengths.
- Points - Report on the total count of all the selected points.
- Blocks - Report on the total count of all the CAD blocks.
- Other objects - Report on the total count of all selected text, images, and survey objects.
- Select an Output Format option:
- Load data into Excel - Select this to view the unformatted data in a Microsoft® Excel spreadsheet. Each object in the spreadsheet is sorted by layer and listed on a separate line. Summations by layer are not provided, thereby enabling you to accomplish that within Excel as desired. For example, using Excel’s Subtotal command. The provided data can be sorted and filtered by any of the column criterion. Skip the next two steps.
- Save data into CSV file - Select this to save the report as a document with comma separated values, which you can then open with the program of your choice. This report will include all sections listed below. Skip the next two steps.
- Display data in Report View - Select this to run and view the report within the program's Report View. For ease of viewing, the Report View is floated, but can be docked if desired. That option is presented as the Float (undock) report setting within the Report Options command.
- If you opted to select an option in the Report Sections list:
- Show layer summary only - Select this to run a concise report summarizing the areas, lengths, and counts in your selection. Empty layers are not shown.
- Show all details - Select this to run the full report.
- Show only selected details - Select this to enable the check boxes for which report sections to include.
- Uncheck boxes for the sections that you do not want to include in the report.
- Area name summary - For each individual layer, list the total number of closed lines, the total perimeter length of all those lines, and their total area. Then for each encountered name of a closed line object, list the total count, the total perimeter length, and the total area of all the close line objects of that name.
Additionally, for each of those layers, list the total number of open lines, and the total length of those lines, plus the total number of objects other than opened or closed lines. - Area list - This report section adds to the above, the following. For each layer containing one of more closed lines, a separate report entry is provided for each individual line, listing its name, perimeter length and area.
- Line name summary - For each individual layer, list the total number of non-closed lines, and the total length of all those lines. Then for each encountered name of a non-closed line object, list the total count and the total perimeter length, of all non-closed line objects of that name.
Additionally, for each of those layers, list the total number of closed lines, their total perimeter length, and their total area, plus the total number of objects other than opened or closed lines. - Line list - This report section adds to the above, the following. For each layer containing one of more non-closed lines, a separate report entry is provided for each individual line, listing its name, and length and area.
- Point feature name summary - List cumulative points that have one or more associated feature codes, as well as their feature codes, alphabetically by name.
- Block name summary - List cumulative counts of CAD blocks alphabetically by name.
- Other object type summary - List cumulative counts of text, images, and survey objects alphabetically by name.
- Area name summary - For each individual layer, list the total number of closed lines, the total perimeter length of all those lines, and their total area. Then for each encountered name of a closed line object, list the total count, the total perimeter length, and the total area of all the close line objects of that name.
- Click or click if you want to make changes to the selection or report format and run the report again. The report appears in your selected output.
To change report settings:
- Select Reports > Report Options in the Quick Access Toolbar.
