Rebuild a Surface

At times, you may want to edit a surface multiple times without having it automatically rebuild after each change. To do this:

  1. Select the surface in either the Project Explorer or the Plan View.
  2. Right-click and select Properties from the context menu.
  3. In the Properties pane for the surface, change the Rebuild method:
    • Auto - This is the default setting that allows the surface to rebuild automatically after each change that affects it.
    • Show empty - Select this to hide the surface in graphic views while you make edits. The surface cannot be automatically or manually rebuild in this state.
    • By user - Select this to suspend the process of rebuilding the surface until you select Rebuild Surface.
  4. Edit the surface as needed. The surface icon is appended with a red corner to indicate that it is out-of-date and needs to be rebuilt:
  5. When you are ready to update the surface, select it, right-click and choose Rebuild Surface from the context menu.

Tip: Saving a project file with the surface's property set to Show empty is a good way to decrease the file size, which can make it more efficient to send the project to a colleague. Remind them to change the Rebuild method property back to Auto to see the surface.
