Linestring Options

Use these options to define properties for a linestring. They are available in the Create Linestring command pane.

Options

Name

Type an identifier for the linestring as you want it to appear in the Selection Explorer and graphic views. You can also use the name to select the linestring in the Advanced Select command.

Layer

Select the layer on which you want to create the linestring.

Optionally, select <<New Layer>> to create a new layer for the linestring.

Line style

Select a display style from the list.

Optionally, select one of the following:

  • Select By Layer to use the line style specified for the layer on which the linestring is being created.
  • Select By Block / Feature to use the line style specified for a block or feature associated with the linestring.
  • Select <<Import line styles>> to open the Line Style Manager where you can browse for a line style file and add new line styles to the list.
Line style scale

Type a new value for the scale (1 is the default).

The higher the line style scale number, the larger the scale. If, for example, you have a dashed line with 12 dashes and you change the line style scale from 1.0 to 2.0, the line will then have 6 dashes.

Note: If your graphic view is showing lines at a small scale, some line styles display as solid to improve performance. You may have to zoom in to see a line's style.

Color

Select the color for the new line.

Optionally, select one of the following:

  • Select By Layer to use the color specified for the layer on which the linestring is being created.
  • Select By Block / Feature to use the color specified for a block or feature associated with the linestring.
Surface sharpness

Select the appropriate option for how smoothly surface colors graduate at the line.

  • Select Soft to specify that shading for the line gradually change, giving the visual appearance of a soft edge.
  • Select Sharp to specify that shading for the line abruptly change, giving the visual appearance of a sharp edge.
  • Select Sharp and texture boundary to specify that the line be a drapeline as well.
Extend vertical

Select the check box to specify that an interpolated elevation be used for the end segment in cases where elevations are specified for the preceding segments but not the end segment.

Auto-close

Select the check box if you want the last line segment to automatically connect with the start point of the first line segment, creating a closed linestring.
