Import CAiCE Files (.txt)
Import Computer-Aided Civil Engineering (CAiCE) files (such as those used by various Departments of Transportation (DOTs)) to bring station, offset, and elevation data from road cross-sections into your project. Generally, this data comes as a zipped set of related files.
Note: Each set of related files should be imported at the same time so they are co-related. Horizontal alignment (HAL) files can be imported independent of their related vertical alignment (VAL) and cross-section files, but VAL and cross-section files must be imported concurrently with HAL files to display properly.
To attach cross-sections to the real alignment:
Cross-sections are based on the XYZ position specified at the center of each cross-section. You can revise the stored cross-sections to use the curvilinear alignment if you have it.
- Drag and drop the centerline file onto your project.
- Select just the stored cross-sections.
- Edit their properties and change the HAL to be the centerline you just imported.
Errors:
- If offset points are not listed in left-to-right order, it is considered an error, but the order is not changed. Cross-section points will be connected in a zig-zag manner. Request a corrected file before before you use the data.
- If the ends of the cross-sections do not intersect the existing ground, it is considered an error. Request a corrected file before before you use the data.

How the imported data is handled |
HAL file (.asc) |
|
A HAL ia created by connecting the centers of the cross-sections. A corridor is created with the existing ground set as a reference surface. A template is created using the proposed ground as a surface. Run a Corridor Earthwork Report to get volumes based on the stored cross-sections. |

VAL file (.asc) |
|
A VAL file is not required, as the imported cross-sections have elevations. |

Cross-section file (.soe) |
|
Station Offset Elevation |
Stations, offsets, and elevations are used to form cross-sections along the HAL. The original data and design data are in the same file:
