Workflow: Perform a Simple Subgrade Adjustment Takeoff
Create simple subgrade adjustments between the Finished design surface and the FD with subgrades adjusted surface to represent the space and volumes that will be occupied by area-based site improvements (without having to specify their material layers and thicknesses, or to define the replaced materials). Note: Use of simple subgrade adjustments is beneficial for earthmoving contractors or subcontractors who have no responsibility for constructing site improvements such as pavements, building foundations, sidewalks, etc. As such a contractor, you may typically address only topsoil stripping, potentially existing in-ground site improvement demolition, mass earthworks, and perhaps topsoil replacement operations. Simple subgrade adjustments allow you to create a takeoff and build the applicable surface models more quickly and with less effort. Following are the basic steps for this workflow. For more detailed instructions, see Identify Simple Subgrade Adjustment Regions and Configure Simple Subgrade Adjustments. |
Steps: |
Commands: |
|
1. |
Import any data you need to do an earthmoving site takeoff, such as linework around site improvements that you will represent using simple subgrade adjustments. Note: You may need to clean up the imported data using the site data prep workflow before you proceed. |
|
2. |
Categorize the layers that contain lines that you may combine to enclose site regions. You will place the subgrade adjustments within these regions in the next step. Designate each of these layers as containing potential site region boundaries. When you close the command, the Finished design and Original ground surfaces are automatically created. Note: Unlike lines for the topsoil stripping areas, the lines on these layers do not need to be closed. |
|
3. |
After selecting the Design takeoff category, use the Simple Subgrade Adjustments group in the Identify Site Regions command to assign subgrade adjustments to regions on your site where area-based site improvements will be built by other contractors. Site regions can be bounded by any intersecting lines found on layers designated as containing potential boundaries in the Categorize Takeoff Layers command. Note: If there are any area-based site improvements that you are responsible for constructing, you will wish to identify those site regions using the appropriate area-based site improvement definition. |
|
4. |
Specify the total thicknesses of any of the simple subgrade adjustments you just created. |
|
5. |
Rebuild the finished design surfaces. The thickness of the subgrade adjustment in each region is used to lower that region beneath the Finished design surface to form the FD with subgrades adjusted surface. |
|
6. |
Use the Surface Slicer View to slice vertically through the FD with subgrades adjusted surface to check your simple subgrade adjustments.Note: Click Surfaces if not all of your surfaces are visible. Check boxes for the surfaces you want to see. If desired, open a 3D View to check the surfaces as well. Note:Leave these views open so you can recheck the takeoff surfaces as you edit them. |
|
7. |
Add unique names to the simple subgrade adjustments on your site. Label them too, if you want. |
|
8. |
Run a Takeoff Report to see a Mass earthwork analysis. This will calculate and show the excess or deficit of earthen material volumes associated with mass earthwork operations. |
