Workflow: Exchange Data Using Connected Workspace

The Connected Workspace command provides seamless round-trip data synchronization between TBC and Trimble Access—or other project team members running TBC (using their Trimble ID login credentials)—via the Trimble Connect cloud platform, ensuring a smooth, safe, and efficient workflow when exchanging all types of project data.

Connected Workspace enables you to create Workspace projects into which Job data can be uploaded from Trimble Access, stored in the project, and imported into your TBC project at any time. In addition, multiple project-related file types can be uploaded and stored in your Connected Workspace project and then, as necessary, either imported into your TBC project or downloaded to a file folder.

Note: The Export function is not available for Connected TBC projects. Use Remote Save to save project data.

Following are the basic steps for this workflow. For more detailed instructions, see Exchange Data Using Connected Workspace.

Connected Workspace

2.

In the Connected Workspace window, select the project containing data you want to exchange with Trimble Access or other TBC users. Or, click the Plus icon to create a new project.

Every project includes three work areas:

  • Workspace is used to share TBC projects stored in a Connected Workspace project. You can upload existing TBC projects into a Connected Workspace project or create new ones.
Note: The dataset Workspace tab is only available if you have a TBC subscription license. If you are using a Perpetual license, the functionality of the tab is disabled.
  • Field Data is used to view, upload, download, and import into your current TBC project related data files.
  • Explorer is used to view and import Job data (.jxl) from the Connected Workspace project into your currently opened TBC project.

3.

To exchange a Job file (.jxl), click the Field Data option in the left pane of the Connected Workspace window.

  • To download the Job file (.job or .jxl) into a file folder, click the Download button and select a folder.
  • To import the Job file (.job or .jxl) into your current TBC project, click the Import button.

4.

To exchange other types of project files, click the Explorer option in the left pane of the Connected Workspace window.

  • To upload a new file into the Connected Workspace project, optionally open an existing folder into which you want to upload it (or click the Create Folder button to create one). Otherwise, it is uploaded directly to the Files list. Then, click the Upload File button and select the file you want to upload.
  • To import a stored file from your Connected Workspace project into your current TBC project, click Import.
  • To download a stored file from your Connected Workspace project to a file folder, click the arrow to right of the file folder, select Download and select a folder.

5.

To configure a feature code library (.fxl), click the Settings option in the left pane of the Connected Workspace window.

  • To upload a feature code library into the Connected Workspace project, click the Upload FXL button. To enable the Access Project File checkbox in the Explorer view, check the Enable Trimble Access Project Files checkbox.
  • To download a stored .fxl file from your Connected Workspace project to a file folder, click the arrow to right of the .fxl file name, select a folder, and click OK.
  • To remove a stored .fxl file from your Connected Workspace project, click the trashcan icon to the right of the file folder. Click Yes to confirm the deletion, or click No to close the Delete Feature Code Library window without deleting.
