Export VCL Files (.vcl) for Civil Workflows
Use the Civil Workflows VCL exporter to export VCLs from which all possible object dependencies have been removed (which match VCLs created by the WorksManager Design exporter, with the exception these civil workflow VCLs are not converted into formats like SVD and SVL for legacy field systems, such as GCS). The exported 'clean' VCL can then be used by Trimble Siteworks,Earthworks, and Groundworks after being accessed in Trimble Connect (you can either export the VCL file to your local computer or upload it directly to Trimble Connect). The resulting VCLs can also be manually uploaded into WorksManager.
Dependencies Removed upon Export
Unlike the Project Link VCL exporter that includes all referenced (objects upon which selected objects are dependent) objects when exporting, the Civil Workflows VCL exporter use the same (underlying) cleanup process as used for WorksManager designs to simplify the exported VCL as much as possible for other applications. The VCL Project Link exporter cannot be used in the same way; it does not create design files that are compatible with field apps/devices.
Known limitations: The Workflows VCL exporter is not compatible with the file converter used by WorksManager to change the file into other formats (SVD, TTM, etc.). The WorksManager VCL exporter should be used if you intend for a design to be used for legacy field systems like GCS900 or other non-VCL applications.
Warning: This exporter does not support design versioning in TBC, but if you use the same file name for new design versions, Trimble Connect handles versioning based on the VCL's timestamp. In Trimble Connect's Detail Panel for a design, you can see the current version, version history, and download a previous version. See File Version History in the Trimble Connect for Browser help.
To export (or upload to Trimble Connect) a VCL file for civil workflows:
Note: For general instructions on exporting data files, see Export Data.
- Select Export in Home > Data Exchange.
- In the Export command pane click the Construction tab.
- Select Civil Workflows VCL exporter in the File Format list.
- From the Data box, pick all of the objects you want to export or save to Trimble Connect in a graphic view or the Project Explorer.
- Type a file name for the exported file in the File Name box, and/or click the
Browse icon to navigate to a location and specify the file name.
- If you want to export another file after this one, uncheck the Close command after export box.
- Skip the Settings group.
- Click Export to save the selected data to a local file or Remote Save to upload the VCL to Trimble Connect.
The exporter creates a single file (.vcl) with just the data that is compatible with and required for the Siteworks, Earthworks, and Groundworks field systems.
- For a remote save, sign in (if needed) to Trimble Connect with your Trimble Identity (TID) credentials.
- Select your Account > Project > Designs > TBC output.
- Click Save.
- Use the Trimble Connect Explorer to review the VCL data.
- Close the pane.
