Create and Edit a Surface Group
Surfaces are used in TBC to plan roadway alignments, calculate cut and fill volumes, and perform other construction operations. Surface groups are used to group together similar surfaces.
Use this tool to create and delete individual surface groups, purge empty surface groups, and select objects by choosing their group. Surface properties allow you to change surface colors to help you distinguish more easily between data on different surfaces.
Create groups and assign surfaces to them to make it easier to manage the visibility of objects using the View Filter Manager. Changing the visibility of a surface group changes the visibility of all of the surfaces within the group, but you can still show/hide each surface individually. You can move surfaces from one group to another, but each surface can only be in one group. When you change a surface's group, the graphic views refresh because the group may have a different visibility state in the View Filter Manager.
To create a new surface group:
- Select Surface Manager to display the Surface Manager window.
- Click the Surface Groups tab.
- Click Add Group. The new surface group appears in the list and in the View Filter Manager.
- In the Group column, type a unique name for the surface group.
- Click the Visible checkbox to toggle the visibility of the surface group.
- To delete a surface group, click the red X. This action cannot be undone.
- Click the Surfaces tab.
- Edit the properties of a surface by checking the Visibile checkbox, or changing the Name, Color, Classification, and Transparency of each surface.
- To add a surface to a surface group, click the Group dropdown and select the surface group.
- Surfaces added to a surface group no longer appear under Surface in the View Filter Manager, but in their unique Surface Group.
- To delete a surface, click the red X. This action cannot be undone.
- Optionally, use a surface's Properties pane to change its surface group.
- Click .
