Create Points from Spot Elevations
To prepare for the Elevate Lines command, create 3D points near the lines you want to elevate from a variety of elevation spot indicators types and their label text. The points are created at the locations of the indicators and inherit the elevations of the text.
Prerequisites:
- License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
- text characters or graphic elements used to indicate spot elevations
To create points from spot elevations:
- Select Create Points from Spot Elevations in Data Prep > Elevate.
The Create Points from Spot Elevations command pane displays.
- If the elevation label text and spot indicator are separate objects, uncheck the Spot indicator is part of the elevation label box. You can check this by clicking on either. Generally, the spot indicator is part of the elevation label only for text objects. This selection changes the options in the Spot indicator list.
- Select the type of text character or graphic element that is used to indicate the spot elevation in the Spot indicator list. For examples, see Point from Spot Elevation Options.
- If the elevation label and spot indicator are grouped in a block, check the Spot and elevation are in same block box.
- If the spot elevations are relative to a common base elevation, type that in the Base elevation box. For example, if you know that the site is in the 1100 meter range based on index contours, but all elevations are shown in the 100s, enter 1000 as the base elevation.
Note: The base elevation value will not be added to the elevations of any new points for which the spot elevation is closer to the base elevation value than to zero. For example, if you add the base elevation of 200, and a spot elevation of 198 is encountered, the base elevation is not used.
- Select a layer on which to create the new points in the Layer list.
- In the Starting point number box, type the number that you want to use as the point ID for the first point created. Subsequent points will be numbered sequentially from the starting number.
- To assign a feature code to the new points for feature code processing, type it in the Feature code box, or click the Browse icon to open the Feature Code Editor where you can enter, edit, and delete feature code strings.
- Press [Ctrl] and pick both the spot indicator and elevation text from which you want to create points, or click Options and choose a selection option form the menu.
- Click Apply. Click Close when you are finished.
