Add or Remove Avoidance Zones
Add avoidance zones to your job site data to make them available on designated data cards for machines (equipped with a grade control system) or controllers (running site controller software). Avoidance zones are used in the field to keep people and heavy equipment from entering restricted areas on the job site.
Note: Other Trimble® programs support multiple, user-named sets of avoidance zones. This software supports a single unnamed set of avoidance zones.
To add/remove avoidance zones:
- If you have just created or added a job site, the Job Site Manager command pane is displayed. Otherwise, select Job Site Manager in Construction Data > Controllers.

- To highlight any avoidance zones that are currently included in the job site data, click Avoidance Zones group. in the
- To change the avoidance zones that are included in the site data, click
. The Add/Remove Avoidance Zones dialog displays.
- To add additional zones, pick lines in the Plan View, or click for selection options.
Note: Only closed polylines (CAD lines, linestrings, and boundaries) and closed alignments can be selected as avoidance zones. They are exported as 2D lines; all elevations and vertical alignments are ignored. All arcs and spirals are "linearized"; they are replaced by chords.
Tip: To use an open line as an avoidance zone, close it first using the Edit Linestring or Join Lines command. - Click . The selected lines are added to the site data.
- To remove unneeded zones, pick them or click .
- Click . The lines are removed from the site data.
- Click . The avoidance zones are saved as an avoid.svl file in the data synchronization area.
- To visually confirm which avoidance zones are included in the site data, click Avoidance Zones group. in the
