Managing project data layers

The Project data tab in the Layer manager screen lists the project data files added to the project. See Managing project data.

Use the Project data tab to link project data files to the job. Project data files are linked to the job when you set them to selectable or visible in the Layer manager.

Linking to project data

  1. To open the Layer manager, tap in the Map toolbar or the Video toolbar.

  2. In the Project data tab, tap the file name once to make features in the file selectable .

Keep tapping the file name to cycle through the options for the file:

    • For vector formats (DXF, Shape file, IFC, Web Feature Services), the options are Selectable > Visible > Off.

    • For CSV/TXT formats, the options are Selectable > Off.

    • For raster image formats (TIFF, JPEG), the options are Visible > Off.

Files that are visible are indicated with. Features in visible files are not selectable. Setting a file to visible can make it easier to select features in other files.

Files that are off have no icon next to the file name. These files are not displayed in the map or video screen and are not linked to the job. To link the file to the job, tap the file name to set it to selectable or visible.

An icon indicates the file does not contain any features that can be displayed.

  3. To make only some layers in a file visible or selectable, tap the arrow next to the file name and then tap the layers you want to change.

The icon next to the file name indicates if some layers are not visible or not selectable .

  4. If the software warns that the data in the project data file is far away from the job data and suggests georeferencing the file, then tap Yes to allow the software to move the file in the map or tap Esc to keep the file in its current location. See Georeference map.

  5. If you select a CSV or TXT file and the software prompts you to specify the Coordinate type of the points in the file, select Grid points or Grid (local) points. If the points in the file are Grid (local) points, select the transformation to use to transform them to grid points. See Advanced Geodetic in Cogo settings.

  6. Tap Accept to close the Layer manager.

TIP – To hide a file from the Layer manager that you are no longer using in the project, go to the Project data page in the project screen and tap next to the file. See Managing project data.

Adding project data in the Layer manager

NOTE – When adding project data files, make sure that they use the same coordinate system as the project or job that they are used with. When adding CSV or TXT files, the coordinate order (northing and easting ordinates) in the comma delimited file must be the same as the setting in the Coordinate order field in the Units screen. Make sure the data in the file is in the format: Point name, First ordinate (Northing or Easting), Second ordinate (Northing or Easting), Elevation, Point code.

  1. To open the Layer manager, tap in the Map toolbar or the Video toolbar.

  2. Select the Project data tab.

  3. Tap Add and then select the files to add from a location on the controller or from Trimble Connect if the project you are working in is a cloud project.

If the file you want to add is not shown, make sure it is a supported file type and that the file name does not contain invalid characters (such as a dollar sign or parentheses).

  4. Tap Accept.

The files you added are shown in the Layer manager and are set to selectable .
