Project settings
To configure settings for the project, from the map tap and then select the appropriate menu item.

Point numbers active
Select the Point numbers active check box to add numbers to nodes when they are added to the map.
Stakeout coarse/fine
Select the distance from the target at which the stakeout navigation display changes from 'coarse' to 'fine'.
Projection reduction
Select the check box to work with local coordinates. This means that nodes that use a different coordinate system to that defined for the project are transformed to grid coordinates and appear on the map. Nodes in a different coordinate system that are not transformed to grid coordinates do not appear on the map.

Show points in map
Move the slider to display points in the map at the selected zoom level or above. To display points at the current zoom level, tap Current.
Show comments in map
Select the GNSS autoscroll check box to display comments in the map.
GNSS cursor
Select the GNSS autoscroll check box to automatically center the map on the current position from the GNSS receiver, if it is available.
Zoom
Smooth zooming is enabled by default and improves the performance of the map when zooming.
Sensitivity
Select the method you use for interacting with the application. Options are Touch or Stylus.
Map provider
Select the provider of the background map. Depending on the provider you select, additional fields may appear for selecting the appropriate map.
Available providers include Mapnik, OpenTopoMap, ArcGIS World Street, Google Maps, and Google Maps Satellite.
To add a map provider:
- Tap
to view the User WMS settings dialog.
- Tap Add. In the Edit map services dialog:
- In the Map provider field, enter the name you will use to identify the map provider service.
- In the Address field, enter the URL of the web map service.
- If the map service provider has provided you with a client key to access the service, enter it in the Client Key field.
- Select the Map service type from the list. Options are Tile or WMSMap.
- Tap OK.
-
In the User WMS settings dialog, tap OK to return to the Display settings screen.
Wait while the software retrieves information from the web map service.
- From the Map WMS Layer field, select the layer to display from the layers provided by the map service.
-
Select the EPSG 4326 coordinate system from the Map WMS coordinate system list.
The EPSG code for the WGS 1984 coordinate system is EPSG 4326. Because the map in Penmap is always displayed in WGS 1984, and feature geometry is transformed to WGS 1984 when shown in the map, to view WMS data in the map you must use a WMS that displays data in WGS 1984.
To edit a map provider service you have added:
- Tap
to view the User WMS settings dialog.
- Select the map provider from the list and tap Edit.
- Edit the fields in the Edit map services dialog and tap OK.
- In the User WMS settings dialog, tap OK to return to the Display settings screen.
If you are using a web map service, the software caches the WMS tiles. It can be useful to delete collected WMS tiles if the cache is old or available memory on the device is low. To do this, select the Clean up cache check box in the System settings screen.

Edit the GNSS settings for the project. These can also be accessed from the GNSS Method menu. See GNSS settings.

Edit the iFeature settings in the project template, as required. Changes you make effect all projects that use the same template. For more information, see iFeature templates.

Enter the horizontal and vertical accuracy limits when performing different tasks. You can specify different values for calibration points, stakeout, and data verification.

Select this menu item to view a walkthrough of the main Penmap features.
