Standardize Layers

Use the Standardize Layers command to manually move imported objects from their source layers onto the appropriate standard layers that you use for every project. Using this command, when you pick an object all of the data on that object's source layer is selected. Then you can relayer those selected objects onto the desired standard layer. Using two clicks for each layer you want to standardize, you can organize the layers created from imported CAD data in seconds.

Prerequisites:

  • License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
  • Resident standard layer naming convention. This resource will be contained within a project file or project template on which the project file is based. It will contain standard layers that are part of a resident standard layer naming convention used throughout your projects. Each of the standard layers must be protected layers, so when you are creating a project template to provide a resident standard layering convention for use with this command, make sure that all of those layers are protected.
  • Imported data that resides on various source layers. As data is imported, the layers that are created are not protected. Therefore, unprotected layers are assumed to be those on which the source data resides and protected layers are assumed to be those defined within the standard layering convention as represented in the template on which your project file was based.

To access the command:

To consolidate and standardize layers:

  1. Open a Plan View.
  2. On the ribbon, select Home > View Filter Manager.
  3. At the top of the View Filter Manager, click the Zoom Extents icon to use the Auto Zoom mode in which the current graphic view automatically zooms to the extents of the data that is visible in the view filter.
  4. Right-click any layer in the manager and select View Only Non-protected from the context menu.

Because all of your standard layers are protected, the view shows only the objects that reside on non-protected source layers. As you 'standardize' these layers (move them to standard layers), they will disappear from the view.

  5. Access the command as described above.
  6. From the Select object on source layer box, pick an object in the view that you want to move to a standard layer. All of the objects on the selected object's layer are selected.
  7. Choose the standard layer to move all the selected objects onto in the Select standard layer list. The number of objects that were relayed appears near the botton of the pane.
  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to continue standardizing source layers until there is no more visible data in the Plan View.
  9. Click Close.
