Point Cloud Options

Use the Options dialog to specify various settings that control:

  • The aperture size of the cursor box you use to pick individual points in a point cloud
  • How point clouds are displayed and used in Trimble Business Center

To specify point cloud settings:

  1. Select Options.
  2. Optionally, change the Pick aperture size.

    This determines the size of the cursor box you will use to pick individual points in a point cloud (for example, a reference point for elevation). The point nearest the center of the box is the point selected when you click.

  3. In the left navigation pane, select Point Clouds.
  4. Select settings as follows. When you are done, click OK.

Options

Maximum number of points in surface definition

Specify the maximum number of scan points to be used for creating a surface. More points will result in a more precisely defined surface but slower performance. Specify a number that is a good balance between the precision and performance you require.

Maximum number of points in volume measurement

Specify the maximum number of scan points to be used for measuring a volume. More points will result in a more precise volume measurement but slower performance. Specify a number that is a good balance between the precision and performance you require.

Maximum number of points in spatial sampling algorithm

Specify the maximum number of scan points to be used in spatial sampling.

Copy point cloud files to the project folder on import

Check this box to specify that all original point cloud files are copied as archives to the project folder during import.

Note: Even if this check box is unchecked, point cloud files imported in TZF (.tzf) format are copied into the project folder on import to support certain point cloud-related workflows, such as scan registration.

Scan Registration Properties

Specify the colors to use for reference and moving scan points when registering point cloud scans, and whether to include scan names in the Reference Scans and Moving Scans tab labels. (See Register Point Cloud Scans.)

Colorization

Specify whether to automatically color scans from scan stations with color images during import.
