Set Running Snap Modes

Running snaps are frequently-used snaps that are constantly enabled ("running"), so that you do not have to initiate a specific snap command each time you need one. You can, however, specify which of the running snap modes you want to be active at any time.

Note: If multiple snap modes are active, and you pick a point in a graphic view that satisfies multiple snaps, the snap closest to the center of the pick aperture prevails.

When a snap is active, the cursor's appearance indicates the type of snap. For instance, when you are in a snap mode that lets you pick an object, the cursor displays with a pick aperture (box). If you are in free snap, the cursor displays with cross hairs. See COGO Controls for more information.

There is no visual feedback in graphic views when you snap to a point, but the coordinate of the point is entered into the control in which you are working.

To set running snap modes:

  1. Do one of the following:

The Running Snap Mode Options dialog displays.

  2. On the Object snaps tab, check or uncheck boxes next to any of the modes you want to enable or disable.

See Running Snap Mode Options for more information.

Note: You need to have at least one snap mode enabled. Otherwise, you will not be able to pick anything in the graphic views.

  3. Optionally, select the Display visual snap indicators check box to specify that snap points include visual indicators, making them more visible and easier to use.

If this option is not selected, snap modes that work only with visual snap indicators are disabled in the Snap modes list.

See Running Snap Mode Options for more information.

  4. Optionally, use the Snap Mode Priority buttons on the Object snaps tab to move snap modes up (higher priority) or down (lower priority) in the Snap modes list.

When more than one snap mode can display for an object, the snap mode positioned higher in the list is the one displayed. For example, a line that ends where it intersects with another line could display either the end point snap for the line or the intersection point for the two lines, depending on which snap option is higher in the Snap modes list.

  5. Click OK to close the dialog.

Note: Running snap modes are superseded by snap commands.
