Export Esri File Geodatabases (.gdb)

An Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) File Geodatabase (.gdb) is a file folder used to hold a collection of various types of GIS dataset files. The datasets are used to export point, line, polygon, and feature data from your project.

To export ESRI File Geodatabases:

Note: For general instructions on exporting data files, see Export Data.

  1. Select Export in Home > Data Exchange.

    The Export command pane displays.

  2. Select the GIS tab. Then select ESRI File Geodatabase in the list.
  3. Click in the Data field. Then select the points you want to export in a graphic or spreadsheet view.
  4. Optionally, in the File Name field, type a path and file name for the export file, or click the Browse button to browse to a location and specify a file name.

By default the ESRI File Geodatabase name is the name of the project.

  5. In the Settings list, select the appropriate options for the export.

If you select Global: Latitude, Longitude in the Output horizontal drop-down list, the default WKT (well known text) code used for the export will correspond to the WGS-84 coordinate system. If you select Local: Latitude, Longitude or Grid: North, East, the WKT based on the coordinate system selected in the project. If the destination GIS software projects a different coordinate system than the one selected in the project, you can specify to export the data using the matching coordinate system by entering its WKT code in the Spatial reference field.

Note: The Esri File Geodatabase exporter enables you to select to export all important polygon and polyline feature attributes extracted for pavement conditions (for example, cracks and potholes) during a pavement inspection, including diameter, height/depth, slope length, severity level, and more, as applicable.

In addition, you can select to include or not include area, length, and ID attributes for non-pavement condition geometry in the export. (Regardless of this setting, these attributes are always exported with pavement condition geometry.)

Select Yes for the Copy related files setting if you want to copy associated attribute files/photos into a subfolder included in the resulting output folder. This allows the files/photos to be accessed and viewed in other applications via a relative file path when the output folder is moved to a different computer that does not have access to the computer on which the source VCE project is stored.

  6. Click Export.

A new folder containing the exported geodatabase files (and related files, if selected) is created in the selected location.
