Create CAD Points from Scan Points

Use the Create CAD Points from Scan Points command to create CAD points with elevations from selected scan points using spatial or random sampling. You can then use the scan-based CAD points to perform various CAD functions in TBC or export them to other systems.

Prerequisites:

To create CAD points from scan points:

  1. Select Create CAD Points from Scan Points in Point Clouds > Deliverables to display the Create CAD Points from Scan Points command pane.
  2. Click in the Scan point selection field and then do either of the following:
    • To create CAD points from an entire point cloud region, select the region in the Project Explorer.
    • To create CAD points from a selection of scan points (as opposed to an entire region), select the Rectangle Select or Polygon Select selection state on the Point Cloud tab in the Trimble Business Center ribbon and draw a rectangle or polygon around the scan points you want to include.
  3. In the Sampling type drop-down list, select the appropriate sampling option: Spatial or Random.
    • If you select the Spatial sampling option, enter the sampling distance (space between each scan point) in the Spacing field.
    • If you select the Random sampling option, enter the number of points to include in the sample in the Number of points to extract field.
  4. In the Layer drop-down list, select the layer on which to display the new CAD points.

Optionally, select <<New Layer>> to create a new layer.

  5. Click the Apply button.

The newly created CAD points are displayed in the in the graphic views. To hide the point cloud region(s) from which the CAD points were created, use the View Filter Manager.

Note: The scan points from which the CAD points were created remain in the project unaffected.
