Create a New Feature Definition Based on an Existing Definition

If you need to create a new feature definition that will share properties with an existing definition, you can make a copy of the existing definition. You can then change the name and code for the definition and any other properties as necessary. Optionally, you can "move" the definition to a different category by making a different selection in the Category drop-down list in the definition's Properties pane.

To create a new feature definition based on an existing definition:

  1. In the Project Explorer, right-click the node representing the feature definition you want to copy.
  2. In the context menu, select Create a Copy.

    A new <FeatureType> Feature Definition node displays nested in the same category with the same name and code but appended with a number. In addition, the <FeatureType> Definition Properties pane displays.
